What is a WiFi Heatmap

A WiFi heatmap is a visual representation of the wireless signal coverage and strength. It is a map of a wireless signal that shows the strength of the signal in different areas of a building or facility. WiFi heatmaps are generally overlaid on top of a building or facility floor plan to help give network owners a clear idea of where problem areas are located in relation to the collected survey data and access point locations. WiFi heatmaps are used to assess wireless network coverage and performance, and they help network administrators identify areas where the signal is weak or non-existent. WiFi heatmaps are created using WiFi heatmap software, which fully automates the process of mapping WiFi coverage on a map, allowing anyone to create a WiFi heatmap in a matter of minutes just by walking from one place to the next until the entire area is mapped. WiFi heatmap software is available from various brands, including Ekahau, NetSpot, and NetAlly, among others.
